With gas prices as high as they are, it is essential to use some tricks during your daily routine to help you maximize your gas mileage. Here are some simple and practical things you can do to get the most out of each drop of fuel.

Turn Off the AC
Using your air conditioner is a drain on your engine and it kills your gas mileage when driving through the city. If the heat is not too bad, roll down your windows when traveling in “stop and go” traffic. Also, turn your air conditioner off a few minutes before you reach your destination. The remaining cool air will still keep you comfortable until you turn off your car.
Use the Cruise Control
This is a great feature for saving gas if your car has it. When you are driving down the highway, you typically accelerate and slow down without even knowing it. This is bad for your gas mileage. Instead, turn your cruise control on if there isn’t a lot of traffic. This will save gas because it keeps your speed constant.
Turn the Car Off
Do you often sit in a line at the drive thru window for several minutes at a time? If so, you could be wasting gas. If your car is going to idle for more than 20 seconds, you would save gas by just turning it off.
Check Your Tire Pressure
The air pressure listed on the side of your tires is the optimal pressure for maximum gas mileage. If your tires need air, you aren’t getting as many miles to the gallon that you could be getting.
By using these four tips, you should be able to squeeze more miles from a gallon of gas and put more money back into your pocket each month.

With the cost of everything going up these days, finding ways to save money is essential. One of the places you may have overlooked is your auto insurance coverage. If you have not evaluated your auto insurance coverage in a few years, you could be overpaying. Here are three tips that you can use to help you lower your auto insurance premiums.

Ask to Increase Your Deductible
Your insurance deductible is the amount of money that you are responsible for if you are in an accident or when you file a claim. If your deductible is $500 and the damages are $1500, you pay the first $500 and then your insurance company pays the remaining $1000. The higher your deductible is, the lower your premiums are going to be. In some cases, increasing your deductible by $1000 can save you nearly 40 percent on your premiums. If you have a significant savings, choosing a higher deductible may be best for you.

Improve Your Credit Score
Almost everything you do anymore is based on your credit score. This is even true with some auto insurance policies. If you can increase your credit score, you can often decrease your premiums. Paying your bills on time and looking for errors on your credit report from time to time can help you maintain a decent score.

Shop Around
Auto insurance policies differ from company to company. As such, prices do as well. Your auto insurance company could be charging a lot more than other companies. It’s easy to shop for a policy online and you can compare prices and policies without ever leaving your home.

Saving money on your auto insurance can be a huge financial relief for some people. Take a couple hours to evaluate your auto insurance needs and see if you are paying too much.

Traveling with your beloved pet in the car can be a fun experience if you know how to stay safe. Here are some things you can do to ensure the safety of your pet and your family when traveling long distances in the car.

Get a Large Crate
One way to keep your pet safe is to put them in a well-ventilated crate during the trip. This will prevent them from walking around in the car and disturbing the driver. Make sure the crate is large enough so they can stretch out and turn around so they won’t feel so confined.

Get a Microchip and Collar
Microchips are great ways to keep track of your pet in case they happen to get away from you. They are also inexpensive to implant. You should also put a collar on your pet with tags that give your contact information, such as your cell phone number, address and any other information you think would be relevant.

Keep Their Head Inside the Car
It might seem cute to see a dog riding down the highway with the wind blowing through his hair. But this could turn into a disaster if they are hit by a flying object. Make sure your pets keep all of their body parts inside the car to prevent a freak accident.

Bring Your Own Water
Drinking water from unfamiliar areas could result in upset stomachs for both you and your pets. Bring plenty of bottled water or water from your tap to help prevent any stomach issues from occurring in the car.

Keeping your pet safe and healthy on a long car trip is essential for everyone’s enjoyment. Use these tips and you and your pets can have a fun and exciting adventure.

Following a car accident, people are shaken and scared. Well-meant actions and comments can, unfortunately, cause problems later on. Know these do’s and don’ts so that if the time comes, you will respond appropriately.

1. Keep a pen, paper, disposable camera and emergency contact information in your glove compartment at all times. Take notes, names, numbers and addresses. Get the name of the insurance companies for all drivers involved. Things that you think you will remember are easily forgotten when you are under stress.

2. If it is safe, move the vehicles to the side of the road. If it is not safe, buckle seatbelts and wait in the car until help arrives. Unless you are trained in emergency care, avoid offering medical assistance to injured people after an accident. Your well-meaning gestures may actually cause harm.

3. Photograph the scene and the area where the accident occurred. Contact emergency workers and your insurance company. Only do this when all the victims of the accident are safely out of the flow of traffic.

4. Never admit fault in an accident, no matter what the circumstances are. Also avoid saying you are sorry. These could be considered admissions of guilt. Even if you believe you know exactly what happened, avoid accepting blame. Issues may come up later proving your innocence, such as another driver being intoxicated or not having a valid driver’s license.

5. Know what your insurance covers. After an accident is no time to wonder whether you are covered for a tow truck or rental car.

Sometimes a simple insurance claim to your insurer or the other driver’s insurer is denied for no good reason. At this point, contact a Florida personal injury attorney to find out your rights and how to protect your interests.
